Why You Must
Practice Daily Self Nurturing
Clear and simply, you must practice daily self nurturing as a ritual that feeds your whole mind-body-spirit self. It’s that adopted practice of daily nurturing that keeps you rejuvenated, refreshed, and with the energy to share your life with others. When you have given too much, and have not re-fueled yourself, you may become crotchety, harbor resentments that bubble out, and feed dis-ease which can manifest as disease.
You can do this energy exercise either alone, or with a friend. Place your palms facing each other, about two-inches apart. Push in and way, never touching palms, moving outward about 12″ and then back inward to within an inch or so of touching. Continue this in and out motion and begin to notice the heat generating between your two palms. As you continue to play with the heat, notice how it takes on a ball shape, and builds in density as you continue to generate the energy. Play with this energy ball until you can really feel it as a tangible substance. You have just created energy.
This simplistic exercise depicts the ways in which we are energy, and of how we can manipulate that energy to our benefit, using only our focused attention.
In a group setting, in a circle formation, a conduit of energy flow is allowed to circulate unobstructed for a minute or more. During this unobstructed flow, each participant stands in a relaxed, upright position as the flow circulates.
When the flow is stopped at one participant’s wrist, before being allowed into her body, within seconds her body will start to lean over with the energy flow depletion. When that flow is again restored, she again is standing upright.
When the circulation is stopped on the wrist that enters the next participant’s hand, that flow fills the first participant to a point where too much energy causes her to begin trembling with the over-load of energy. The woman has no means of releasing the energy into the next participant, and is off-balance by the increasing input of energy that has no means of release.
When once again the energy is allowed to flow freely, the entire group of participants stand in balance, individually and collectively. The experiential exercise is fascinating to witness, and is even more extraordinary to feel physically, as a participant.
How will you replenish your energy?
It’s not about caffeine and energy drinks or even about vitamins. A daily self-care ritual feeds your whole mind-spirit-body self. It’s the key to longevity and happiness because when your focus is on living consciously from a place of wellness through mindful daily self-care, you are expanding on that energetic frequency of wellness. What you place your focused attention on, is what will expand. It can be no other way. This concentrated level of focus on self-nurturing ensures alignment, and alignment is the condition of balance in which the human organism most thrives.
You recognize how well you feel on those days when you are well-fed, hydrated, have had adequate sleep, and have filled your soul with positive reflections. Maybe you’ve taken an artist’s date and have received inspiration from museums, or from time spent in nature. This is alignment at its best.
Contrarily, you recognize how off-balance you are on days when you have been pulled in too many directions, have not nourished your body, mind, and spirit, and have not taken a time out to replenish your energy. You have nothing to share when your energy is depleted. And this is a dangerous condition which lends itself to serious health consequences.
Self-care doesn’t have to require a major overhaul of your lifestyle. Small changes can be added to life in increments as simple as clearing your calendar and scheduling in a morning tea, starting or ending the day with journaling, or by meditating for a few minutes each day. It could be mindfully preparing healthy delicious meals, or coloring in a coloring book. It could be something so simple as reading an escape novel to wherever you may wish to escape, watching old Charlie Chaplin or Robin Williams comedies, or focusing on your steady conscious breath as you wait in a supermarket line.
Self-care can be as easy as taking scented warm baths, staring at a candle, or petting puppies. It need not be a task. In fact, the very moment self-care turns into a task, is the moment when it is no longer self-care.
One of my favorite things to do is to read interior decorating magazines. With my feet up, tea or wine at elbow reach, I indulge in every delicious image. My mind is not only allowed, but is encouraged to dream big about the way my next home will be. It’s a magnificent escape that feeds my body, mind and spirit, and gets my creative juices flowing. And as a bonus, the images are often cut out and added to my vision book or vision board.
A close second in favorites, is cooking. I love to cook, even more than I love to eat. It doesn’t matter if it’s baking, frying, sauteing, or making soups, the very art of mindfully preparing meals is a wonderful pleasure in my life.
Love yourself enough to fill your own soul with simple pleasures on a daily basis.
